I’m Petra Carter – cook, (food)writer, photographer and artist. I live in the South of France and this is my diary. Of sorts.
In reality it’s a mishmash of stories about food and Languedoc village life, of recipes and travels, of strangers and friends, of thoughts and reflections, and probably more…
They may be of interest to people living in France or to those who aspire to… to cooks and those who want to be… And there is also an artistic edge to this blog.
I shall go with the flow, and I hope you will follow. I’m new to blogging and we are in this together, so let’s see what happens. I promise I’ll make it interesting and varied.
Because of the diversity of subject matter, I have classified each post under different categories – rather than simply archiving them. So choose a subject that interests you from the top menu, then click on an article that might interest you .

PetRA!!!
What IS this crazy thing you have made? Where are YOU in it? Where is your house and your food and YOU? Its a blog of OTHERS! Where are YOUUUUUUUU???
Where are your mianderings and your musings and your madness? It just seems to be a way of accessing others when YOU are the BEST!!!!
Of course there is a strong possibility that I don’t know how to USE your blog. I am a blog virgin and hoped for YOUR blog to de-flower me. Alas….I remain intact. Any good recipes for Hymens?
Well EmPemSmem, I’m also a blog virgin, but if you had read the above, you would have known to click on CATEGORY (in the right-hand column) and select a subject that interests you. As for de-flowering you… haven’t I just done so? xx
PS… To be kept informed of new posts (you won’t be inundated – I don’t have the time!) just submit your email address and you’ll receive notice whenever I’ve written something new…
Hey Petra, how are you keeping, love the blog
Hi Petra, how’s life in the South of France. It is still deep in my memory the wonderful times we had there and on the rest of our travels. The internet is wonderful cause i can peruse everywhere i have been. Happy cooking! All the best Sue and Karen.
Sue! How lovely to hear from you. Did you see I put La Souqueto breakfast recipes on the blog – just for you! How are you both?
Did your season go well for you? Ours is just beginning – after yet another winter of (final!) renovations. No more sharing of bathrooms now! Lots of love to you and Karen! Pxx
Hi Petra
I stumbled upon your blog and thank you for sharing your insight into life in France.
My husband and I have long held a desire to have a place in France and now that we are the parents of 3 young children, we’d like to expose them to another language/culture from a young age.
I am ferociously looking for advice/blogs on restoring/renovating/buying a house in France and which areas would be suitable. I have read your two blogs on termites and enjoyed your pictures; are there any other entries that describe in detail your renovation decisions, frustrations and knowledge? Would greatly appreciate reading them.
In the meantime, I will investigate your lovely village and see if it’s the type of town we are indeed looking for.
Regards, Audrey
